nakedtwisterworldchamp asked: i've only been playing for a few months, maybe 2 or 3, and i have a few friends i try to play with on the days we're not all working. There's a store a few towns over i plan on going to for FNM tomorrow. I'm a little intimidated and i know i'll probably get smacked multiple times but i'm still excited to go. I know what draft is I think but sealed is still a mystery to me, and my basic knowledge of the game probably isnt that solid, but i wanna learn because it's super fun.
Well give me a little bit and i’ll try to get some resources together for you! Welcome to the community though. :)
You all know that Magic The Gathering tends to be my escape from reality on any given day of the week. With that I’ve decided to set a few goals for myself that I feel are rather ambitious considering I only recently started to take the game seriously as opposed to it being a hobby (like less than a month ago). These are things I have dreamed of since I was a kid and have really wanted to do for years but I knew that I didn’t have the budget to build solid constructed decks and I wasn’t a strong enough limited player to qualify for these events in that way. It’s rather sad when I think about it but I knew my weaknesses. However in thinking more and more about it I would love to become a much stronger player and eventually go pro with MTG so I decided to set the following goals (both short term and long term) for myself.
1.) Buy my very first box of Magic.
My plan is to do this next month when Theros drops and use that as a springboard into constructed them buying singles as needed when unable to receive them through trading.
2.) Win my first FNM (3 Month goal)
This obviously will come with time seeing as how I am only now getting into constructed and I am still honing my skills as a drafter. I do think however having that as a 3 month goal is reasonable if I get practice in wherever possible even if through MODO or Wednesday might drafts at my local store.
3.) Win a GPT (1 year goal)
With rotation being just around the corner and a relatively decent knowledge of Return To Ravnica block I feel that this isn’t a horrible time frame for this goal. I’ve been doing a decent amount of drafting (albeit practice drafts on my phone) with M14 so I’ve been getting a decent knowledge of that set as well.
4.) Top 8 a Grand Prix. (2 year goal)
This will be a fun task to achieve. Seeing as how it will probably take quite a few Grand Prixs to finally top 8 one the two year mark is about where this seemed relevant for my personal goals. Don’t know what else to say about that one.
5.) Qualify for a Pro Tour (3 year goal)
This is the big daddy of all goals. I’m setting it at three years because I would like to hope that with the amount of time an dedication I will be giving this game over the next couple years I will have become a good enough player to do this. It seems like a long shot but hey I was raised to dream big and I figure in the world of Magic it doesn’t get much bigger than the Pro Tour. Actually I straight up don’t think it gets any bigger than that, for me at least. Ive dreamed of being at that tournament since I was 8 years old when I started playing back in 6th edition core. (Yeah I took an almost 10 year hiatus. Sue me.) Nowadays though I don’t think that that dream is too far off. Just a lot of practice and quite a few late nights of deck tech with friends and I will be goodski to goski.
So there you have it everyone. These are my goals. If your with me then I will gladly accept any companionship I can get in this endeavor. Otherwise steer clear because I’m now all aboard the Magic train. Also, to anyone that has read this far it really does mean a lot. These are goals I have thought about for a while and I will keep everyone posted on how they are and when they get accomplished.
